The Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute (CCOITI) is a member of ITI.
It wasfounded in November 1977 and is a non-governmental and nonprofit organisation whose function and maintenance are subsidised by the Republic of Cyprus. It is run by a nine-memberBoard of Directors which is elected by the General Assembly of its members, with a three-yearterm of office. The Board of Directors consists of currently active professionals in the fields ofCyprus theatre and performing arts. Professionals in a variety of theatrical fields can join CCOITI as members.
CCOITI collaborates with cultural organisations and institutions both in Cyprus and abroad as well as with Embassies and educative foundations of foreign countries located in Cyprus, while at the same time, it has a permanent presence and active participationin the International Committees of the ITI. Its goal is, through its essential activity, to contribute towards the international collaboration regarding the development and evolution of the art of theatre and the performing arts in all its aspects and expressions; to be the liaison agent between the Cypriot and international artistic community and to promote Cypriot theatre play as well as any theatrical activity to the rest of the world.
Among the rich and diverse work of CCOITI, some distinguished activities outstand having gained great acclaim: the “InternationalFestival of Ancient Greek Drama” which is annually co-organised with the Deputy Ministry ofCulture and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus, the “International Symposium on Ancient Greek Drama” which is co-organised with the Deputy Ministry of Culture every two years, the “Cypriot Theatre Week” in Athens, the “PLAY” Project, the annual celebrations for World Theatre Day and International Dance Day, the participation in European and international programs, one-day conferences and workshops dealing with theatre and performing arts, as well as CCOITI’s publications which are invaluable tools for the archive record of Cypriot theatre history.
